To get your Eudora v5.2.x version email client
to work with your Dreamhost domain, follow the steps Below

  • Starting with a "new" installation of Eudora 5.2.x
Screen Details
  • Pull down the:
    Tools -> Options Menu Item
  • Enter:
    The string you want people to see in the From: field of messages you send them

  • Enter:
    The address at which your recipient's replies will come back to you

  • Enter:
    Your domain's POP/IMAP server name

  • Enter:
    The mailbox account name you were provided with when you created this account at the Dreamhost Web Panel

  • Enter:
    Your domain's SMTP server name

  • If your ISP does not block SMTP Check:
    the "Allow authentication" check box

  • Select the:
    Checking Mail Category

  • Check:
    Save Password to retain your mailbox account password so you don't have to enter it each time you do a fetch

  • Confirm:
    The Secure Sockets when Receiving option is set to "Never"

  • Adjust:
    The other options and check boxes to suit your preferences

  • Choose:
    The type of interaction you will have with your POP/IMAP server

  • Choose:
    The "Passwords" Authentication Style option

  • Adjust:
    The other options and check boxes to suit your preferences

  • Select the:
    Sending Mail Category

  • Check:
    Allow authentication check box

  • Confirm:
    The Secure Sockets when Receiving option is set to "Never"

  • Adjust:
    The other options and check boxes to suit your preferences

  • Creating additional (non-dominant) Eudora Personalities
  • Modifying a personality from the Personalities dialog
Screen Details
  • Pull down the:
    Tools -> Personalities Menu
  • Right Click:
    On a personality you want to change and choose Properties or...

  • Right Click:
    In the personalities dialog and choose "New" from the context menu

  • If you choose:
    "New" from the context menu;

    - you will get a New Account Wizard dialog

    - I normally skip directly to the advanced account setup dialogs since I find that easy enough

  • Whether you are creating a new account personality or changing an existing personality's properties, you will open a dialog which looks very much like this

  • This tab (Generic) controls how your personality in Eudora will interact with the SMTP server at dreamhost

  • From the Generic Properties Tab do the following:

  • Enter or Update:
    The information in the fields using the example on the left

  • If your ISP does NOT block SMTP...Check:
    the "_A_uthentication allowed" check box

  • If you want this personality to fetch it's mail from our POP server...Check:
    the "Chec_k_ Mail" check box

  • This tab (Incoming Mail) controls how your personality in Eudora will interact with the POP/IMAP server at dreamhost

  • From the Incoming Mail Properties Tab do the following:

  • Enter or Update:
    The information in the fields and options using the example on the left (you may have slightly different wishes, so your options may be different. However, the Authentication Style option should ____ match?)

  • You SHOULD be able to POP or IMAP your mail at/from the Dreamhost POP/IMAP server assigned to your domain from anywhere in the world regardless of what your ISP is doing about SMTP blocking

  • Click:
    [ OK ]

  • That should do it...you should be able to fetch (POP/IMAP) and send mail through the SMTP server assigned to your domain at Dreamhost
